This is going to be a completely useless comment that won't help you one bit, since I don't understand the first thing about pixels and stuff...
All I know is we have a lovely Olympus MJU 400, and I'm very happy with it. It's a couple of years old now, so I daresay it's not even on the market anymore, but I am quite impressed with the brand and would happily trade up within the Olympus range.
I've got a Canon PowerShot A70 and I love it. It's nothing fancy as digitals go, but it serves me very well. Mine's a little out of date. You wouldn't even find an A70 in the store these days, but if you're looking for a fairly basic (just a little more than point and click) digital camera, the current generation of Canon PowerShot would probably serve you well.
Hm, I've been researching this the past few weeks- my 'blog'/diaper bag camera (Kodak) has about bitten the dust. Too much time spend sevely colour correcting everything- just for a blog post lol! Anyway, we've got fantastic high res Sonys, Nikons, and Canons, but I need a good one that's cheap (under $200) and gives me good colour right out of the box...So far Olympus seems to fit the bill with reviews, so might be worth looking into! Hope this helps!

Happy shopping!
I love my Digi Rebel XT. It's 8 MP and you can do a lot of stuff with it.
